Help improve the lives of school children in Kenya

Hello! My name is Jessica Wheeler, and I am so thrilled to be part of an upcoming DWC trip to Naro Moru, Kenya in October, 2020! This will be my 2nd DWC trip, with the first being to Gathawa, Nepal in November, 2018 where my team worked with local tradespeople and community members to build a home for a mother and her 2 children. When I learned of that opportunity, I felt strongly called to join, and my family and community were totally behind me! After completing the trip and reflecting for some months back in Canada, I know deep in my bones that I am called to do this type of helping work. I work as a home renovator and business owner with my husband, Darby, and we have 2 awesome sons, Vandal (9) and Larz (6), and 2 loving cats, Slater and Gilly. I am also an artist, nature lover, and empath. I felt my soul light up once again when I learned of the trip to Kenya in October, 2020. This type of work is a perfect combination of my desire to help others, my love of meeting new people and places, and my skills in working with my hands and with building.

About the Campaign

While the specific project is not clear yet, we know that it will be improving the lives and learning environment of young children, either through the building of a clean water collection system on the roof of the Aguthi Primary School, or through renovations inside the school itself. Naro Moru is located in the Nyeri District of Kenya, and people living there are among the poorest in the country with almost all of the residents living below the poverty line and beyond the reach of government services. With a weak village infrastructure, many families in Naro Moru have limited access to basic needs. By improving the Aguthi Primary School, we will be improving the ability of each child to become educated, thus helping to break the cycle of poverty so many currently live in.

Thank you for reading, and I hope you will be inspired to help DWC in some way to continue to spread love and light through the amazing global projects!
